This Raw Data is a Raw Deal For Consumers
CFPUA released a “Special Update” on July 21, 2017 publicizing that water samples taken at the Sweeney Water Plant on July 14 through July 18 showed some results well above the NC DHHS recommended health goal for GenX of 140 ppt.
CFPUA indicated that “…DHHS guidance … is the only measure CFPUA is able to operate under at this time,” so they contacted NC DHHS for guidance on next steps.
As stated in yesterday’s Daily Filter, the NC DHHS is using arbitrary variables in their calculation of their “recommended health goal.”
And CFPUA is relying solely on DHHS for guidance.
Without more data, our scientists at Clean Cape Fear cannot explain these spikes.
CFPUA cannot explain it.
Chemours is not explaining it.
DEQ is not explaining it.
We are at the mercy of DHHS.
DHHS’s response to the fact that some water samples are DOUBLE their arbitrary “recommended health goal” is that they are “committed to immediately analyze this new data and provide additional guidance. . . as soon as it is received.”
The Department of Health and Human Services website says in its overview that it “manages the delivery of health- and human-related services for all North Carolinians, especially our most vulnerable citizens – children, elderly, disabled and low-income families.”
What are these vulnerable citizens supposed to do while they await additional guidance? Consumption of clean water is required on a daily basis - for the ‘delivery of health.’
